What Is Reiki?

What is Reiki? In the world of Alternative medical healing there is a Japanese technique administered by the "laying on of hands" to relieve stress and negative energy and to transfer positive energy. The word Reiki can be broken down into two Japanese words. Rei (God's wisdom or Higher Power) and the word Ki (life force energy). Combined, these two Japanese words actually mean, "Spiritually guided life force energy".  This spiritual energy or life force is difficult to describe as it is used in a spiritual context and is guided by a higher power as opposed to nature or the natural elements. The word Rei can also be defined as God in the English language. Ki is also described as an unseen force that flows thru all people, animals and plants.

Reiki therapy is for all people and does not depend on the intellect or how spiritually minded or developed an individual is for them to find benefit from Reiki.

This technique promotes healing and stress reduction and utilizes the idea that life force energy can flow through us to others. Many people report that when using Reiki principles, the body, mind, spirit and emotions can create relaxing feelings, a sense of peace, as well as feelings of security and a sense of well being within.

Reiki is a safe, natural and a simple method of bringing about a spiritual sense of self-improvement and healing that all people can use. Reiki is effectively beneficial for all illnesses and ailments. Reiki works alongside other alternative and allopathic therapeutic, medical therapies to promote recover and healing for the human body.

Reiki techniques are not taught, they are transferred during Reiki classes from the Reiki master to the student. This happens during an "attunement" that the Reiki master performs. "Attunement" will enable the student to be able to reach unlimited "life force energy" within to greatly enhance and improve one's quality of living and health levels. Reiki has been enjoyed by thousands of people from all walks of life. Reiki is not directed by the mind but by the spirit so is not limited to either the student or the Master.

The philosophy of Reiki is that Ki flows all around, throughout the person, and not just from the body’s organs and tissues. The ki is thought to vitalize the organs as it flows thru them, thereby creating a healthy life condition. When the flow is blocked, then the belief is that the tissues will suffer a negative affect. The Reiki masters teach that the blockages of the flow of Ki will eventually manifest in illness. In Reiki, the human mind actually exists throughout the body and not just in the brain. It is also taught that the human mind emanates out from the body. This emanation is called aura. So in Reiki, the more appropriate meaning of mind could be thought of in terms as the mind/body.  Therefore the mind affects the body and Reiki techniques bring about whole body healing.
